The Soft Side of Things

“Sometimes what seems like surrender isn’t surrender at all. It’s about what’s going on in our hearts. About seeing clearly the way life is and accepting it and being true to it, whatever the pain, because the pain of not being true to it is far, far greater.” – Nicholas Evans

What do you get the dominant in your life that enjoys a well-crafted BDSM impact toy? If you cannot visit The LoftNC , http://www.loftnc.com. Which I highly suggest, please visit their website at http://soaringeaglecreations.com. This USA based company is worth supporting, not just because the owners have their own personal BDSM experience, but they take their craft very seriously. They do their very best by offering a unique collection of hand-made leather dragon tails, floggers, bats, restraints, St. Andrews crosses, spanking benches as well as many other custom orders.

I have had the pleasure of wielding the double dragon tail as well as the flogger, both of which are excellent impact toys. The toys themselves are made out high quality leather. The handle offers two handle styles handcrafted from durable para cord and solid wood. Their “sensual” handle is a spiral braid of Para cord, while their "gorilla grip" handle is a straight line knot which gives you an awesome grip. The end of the handle is adorned with a Soaring Eagle Concho (Metal end piece with the Soaring Eagle logo). Not only will it handle well during impact play, but it will look good hanging in your dungeon.

You don’t have to take my word for it. Buy one or two for yourself and you will instantly understand the value of good high quality toys. If you are in the area, I suggest you stop buy and speak with Lady Leigh or Mark at the leather shop at the LoftNC. Both can be visited on Sunday or anytime for a one on one tutorial on how to use your new toys.

What is a dragon tail?

A dragon's tail is a kind of whip used for BDSM consisting of a long, stiff handle and a single lash usually made from leather or suede. The lash is a triangular shape with the wide end partially wrapped in a cylindrical shape protruding from the end of the handle. The thin pointed end of the triangle makes contact with the recipient’s skin upon striking. Dragon tails are heavy impact play tools. Much like single tail whips, if thrown hard enough they can crack. They can also cause painful welts and break skin when used in this manner. Dragon tail whips are very versatile, however, ranging in sensation from sensual to extreme depending on how they are used. Thrown lightly and/or with a larger part of the lash contacting the skin they can feel more like a flogger or crop.

What does a dragon trail feel like?

The sensation delivered from a whip is extremely intense and painful. Unlike other spanking tools, the surface area is tiny, meaning that the pain is confined to a much smaller impact area there are two sensations commonly associated with spanking. These are ‘stingy’ and ‘thuddy’. More frequently associated with whips is a ‘stingy’ feel. However some can also deliver a ‘thud’. A ‘sting’ is felt on the surface, whereas a ‘thud’ lands with a deep solid impact, almost like being pushed hard. Your preferred sensation will determine the type of strike you choose.

What is a flogger?

A flogger is a device used to flog, or whip, a partner or lover, usually during a BDSM scene. Floggers are usually made from several tails attached to a rigid handle. The tails may be made from a number of materials, including horsehair, rubber or leather. In BDSM, the aim isn't to harm but to use pain to increase sensation. Flogging is something of an art.

What a flogger feels like?

Floggers are often described in terms of "sting" and "thud;" some floggers produce a stinging sensation, other floggers produce a heavy, dull impact, and some floggers produce a combination of both.

Positions

After all, the stance of the person swinging the flogger/tail is paramount to the sensations felt by the person accepting the strikes. Firstly, the knees should be flexed and the derrière relaxed. Remain flat footed to begin. Once you are more experienced you can move around and experiment with your footing. With feet shoulder width apart and the knees slightly bent, position your striking arm and shoulder towards the target. Now throw the flogger/tail, ensuring your body weight is grounded and you footing is solid. Apply as much force as you and your sub have previously agreed upon.

Okay, now let’s talk bottoms! Our favorite position when it comes to whipping is restrained. This helps to keep the bottom’s target area in place and immobile. You’re not trying to hit a moving target.
